Safety comes first

We always say ‘safety comes first on board’ when we start safety briefing in the first morning of the training. This really means a lot. Because you should expect the unexpected as you sail even in very good conditions. Then we continue with the places of the safety equipments and also with ‘when and how’ to use them. The crew should know about these too. In the picture above ‘a life jacket’ is missing. It is very crucial to wear a life jacket especially in heavy weather, in poor visibility and at night. Of course there are times we take it off like I did during this picture is taken. The skipper may let that happen if the conditions are fair enough and the crew is competent but it is too hot and he feels it is ok for the crew to give some break.
