Ahoy,
I’m Nihan—an RYA Yachtmaster Instructor Sail, born in the same sea as Aphrodite and the Sirens: the Mediterranean, and more specifically, the Aegean.
The spray and the breeze have shaped who I am more than anything else. Alongside sailing, my background as an English teacher has given me the language and pedagogical tools that allow me to teach sailing to people from around the Mediterranean and beyond.
At the heart of my approach is a complete sailing training experience. What sets it apart is something more—perspectives shaped by the Mediterranean, adding a cultural layer to it.
Over thousands of years, civilizations in this region have left traces that still echo in our daily lives, often without us even noticing. When these connections become visible, they tend to stay with people as a surprise.
So while the focus remains firmly on developing strong sailing skills, there are also meaningful bonuses for those who are open to them—from sharpening decision-making to exploring how mythology has influenced the way we think.
If modern cuisine can describe a dish as “grilled fish on a bed of avocado,” then what I offer could be described as “perfect sailing skills on a bed of cultural meditation.”
And as we sail, the water beneath the boat is never alone—the remoras, quietly acting as cultural ambassadors, follow along.
